OFF-CAMPUS STUDY

Students who study aboard
use the rocks around them to understand rock forming processes and decipher the geological history

Whether it's interning in London, studying in Spain or doing research in Germany, most Hobart and William Smith students will have had some kind of international learning experience before they graduate.

With some planning, geoscience majors can travel abroad and still graduate on time. While the Center for Global Education offers abroad programs on six continents, faculty from the geoscience department sponsor programs in New Zealand and Australia, Norwich, England, as well as Galway, Ireland.

Australia/New Zealand

The Queensland program integrates field and lecture components and focuses on the marine and terrestrial ecology of eastern Australia. The program includes extended excursions that highlight the variety of ecosystems found in the region. The final portion of the program consists of a multi-site expedition in New Zealand where students explore the unique geological features of the North and South Islands.

Norwich, England

In the Norwich, England program, students have the opportunity to study at the University of East Anglia (UEA), taking classes and living alongside their British and international classmates, for a full cultural immersion experience.

Galway, Ireland

In the Galway, Ireland program, students are given the opportunity to live and study among Irish students at an Irish university. Participants in the program are also encouraged to join one of the many university clubs and organizations in order to directly experience Irish student life and culture. A service learning project, required of all students and linked to the Director's Seminar, will provide a unique opportunity for students to gain access to the local community.

GLOBAL PROGRAMS

At HWS, students have the freedom to study at any of our Global Education destinations.

The featured abroad programs are recommended by the Geoscience department based on content of the curricula.
