Step 1: CSS Financial Aid Profile
Complete the CSS/Financial Aid Profile by July 1 for fall admission or November 15 for spring admission. The Hobart and William Smith college code is 2294.
Estimates of income should be used when actual numbers are not available.
The CSS Profile application is required in order to receive HWS grant funding.
Noncustodial PROFILE
Instructions for the Noncustodial PROFILE will be sent to all applicants whose natural parents are divorced or separated. The noncustodial parent will be directed to complete this additional form online after the CSS Profile application is submitted. The NCP must also be completed by the CSS Profile deadline indicated above.
Step 2: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
This application is required in order to receive federal and New York state financial assistance and must be received electronically in the Office of Financial Aid by July 1 for fall admission and November 15 for spring admission.
Transfer students who have filed the FAFSA electronically in previous years have a PIN and may file a renewal FAFSA or update their current FAFSA to add Hobart and William Smith Colleges to receive the Student Aid Report electronically. Students and/or parents who have never filed electronically or who have lost or misplaced their PIN may request a new one. Once you and your parent have your PINs, file your FAFSA electronically. The HWS federal school code is 002731.
New York State (NYS) TAP Application
NYS residents with a New York State net taxable family income of $80,000 or less may qualify for a TAP grant ranging from $500 - $5,000. All NYS residents listing a NYS school on the FAFSA have two ways to apply for TAP.
An estimate of your TAP eligibility will be included in the offer of financial assistance from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. NYS HESC will send a copy of the award certificate via email, if an email address is provided, once the NYS budget is passed for the following year.
The Phi Theta Kappa Trustee Scholarship for Academic Excellence for Graduates of Two-Year Colleges
This $20,000 scholarship is awarded to members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The student must show proof of PTK membership, have completed (or be near completion of) an associate degree, and have a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.5 or better (cumulative GPA from all institutions combined).
Finger Lakes Transfer Scholarship
This $17,000 scholarship is awarded to transfer students who have completed (or are near completion of) an associate degree from any of the following designated community colleges in the Finger Lakes region: Broome Community College, Cayuga Community College, Corning Community College, Finger Lakes Community College, Monroe Community College, Onondaga Community College, Tompkins Cortland Community College.
Transfer Faculty Scholarship
This $17,000 scholarship is awarded to select transfer students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance in their previous college studies. Recipients are selected by the Admissions Committee.
Transfer President's Leadership Award
This $15,000 scholarship is awarded to students with strong academic records, demonstrated and sustained leadership and high motivation. Recipients are selected by the Admissions Committee.
Transfer President's Service Award
This $15,000 scholarship is awarded to students with strong academic records and significant involvement in service/civic engagement activities in their schools and/or communities. Recipients are selected by the Admissions Committee.
