ADMISSIONS VOLUNTEER NETWORK

College Fair

As the front line contact between the Colleges and prospective students, alumnus and alumna volunteers provide a valuable service to Hobart and William Smith.  Admissions Volunteer Network (AVN) members also provide key assistance to our prospective students.

For more than five decades, Hobart and William Smith graduates worldwide have supported the admissions office’s recruitment programs through volunteer activity in their local area.  Volunteers attend college nights, conduct personal interviews, and contact prospective students and their parents by telephone.

Through the work of the Admissions Volunteer Network, alumni and alumnae can actively participate in shaping the future of the Colleges by assisting with student recruitment in their area.  In support of the mission of the Colleges, the mission of the Admissions Volunteer Network is to:

  • Contact area high school students by actively participating in local college nights, off‑campus interviews, the Adopt‑A‑School program, and other admissions events.
  • Cultivate interest in HWS by maintaining contact with prospective students throughout the admission process.
  • Convince students HWS provides quality academic and extracurricular programs by citing personal experience and by providing information to create the opportunity to contact on‑campus faculty and staff in specific departments or areas of interest.
  • Convert a student inquiry to an applicant and an applicant to an enrolled student by maintaining contact with prospective students.
  • Connect with prospective students throughout the admission cycle to update information and cultivate interest in HWS.

Whether you are a seasoned AVN member or a new volunteer, we thank you for your support – it means a lot to us.
