The Colleges' Emergency Team just met to review policies and the plan for Hurricane Sandy. Staff from Campus Safety, Buildings & Grounds, and Student Affairs will be on campus 24 hours a day for the duration of the storm. We will be able to offer quick response times should the Colleges experience a power outage.

Oct. 29 - 10 a.m.

The Colleges have been carefully monitoring Hurricane Sandy and its possible implications for our area. During the weekend, a State of Emergency was declared throughout New York State with the greatest concern for areas downstate. Meteorologists are forecasting that Sandy will begin to impact our region later today with heavy rain and high winds predicted for late this afternoon and evening.

Because of the breadth of the storm across the Eastern Seaboard, it’s possible that there may be a disruption to internet and cell service. Given the wind, we may also experience a power outage.

In the event of a power outage, we ask that all students return to their residence halls to await further instructions from RAs. If necessary, we may move students to spaces on campus powered by generators.

Until further notice, the normal class schedule remains in effect. As you travel across campus, we ask that all members of the community proceed with caution. Call Campus Safety (315-781-3333) immediately if you see any downed trees or power lines. Do not approach or touch downed power lines.

We continue to watch the storm’s trajectory closely. To stay up-to-date on the latest developments including any class cancellations, follow Hobart and William Smith on Twitter at www.Twitter.com/hwscolleges (#HWSsandy) or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/hwscolleges. Emergency notifications will be available on this page throughout the day and will also be e-mailed to all students, faculty and staff.
