CASE Lauds Colleges' Materials

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has awarded a Gold Award and two Silver Awards to the Colleges in its District II 2013 Accolades Awards Program. A photograph taken by HWS Chief Photographer Kevin Colton, "Coxe Hall Sunset," (pictured here) won the Gold Award in the "Photography" category. The social media campaign, "Quake on the Lake," won a Silver Award in the Social Media category. The Quake pitted Bishop Hobart against William Smith in a virtual boxing match that was decided by number of donations on behalf of either respective college. Additionally, the Colleges' student recruitment package won a Silver Award in its category. CASE will recognize the accomplishments at its annual conference in Pittsburgh, Pa., in March.

Photography is a significant element of HWS' marketing program, integral to printed materials distributed to prospective students, parents and alums as well as our the Colleges' online presence. Over the course of academic year, Colton and his staff attend literally thousands of classes, lectures, performances and other on-campus events in addition to photographing different aspects of the campus to represent its beauty and vibrancy.  The winning photo captured the most recognizable building on campus at sunset.

The Quake on the Lake was a two-day Annual Fund Challenge, pitting Hobart College against William Smith College to see which could acquire the most donors on Wednesday, May 30 and Thursday, May 31, 2011 (the last day of the Colleges' fund year).

 

According to CASE, highlights of the judges' comments about Quake on the Lake include: "Very creative and nicely put together in a very short time frame;" and "Did a good job at appealing to a niche annual giving audience who may not have been givers in the past, positive response from young alumni." Judges also spoke favorably about frequent updates during campaign period. 

The award-winning student recruitment package was that which was used to enroll the Classes of 2016. Materials included a junior viewbook; viewbook; travel piece; boathouse poster and accept package.

CASE is the professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing and other areas, serving nearly 3,400 universities, colleges, schools and related organizations in 60 countries.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges have earned a number of recent accolades from CASE. This is the second consecutive year a photograph by Colton has earned Gold in the CASE Awards. His photo, "Boathouse at Sunrise" won a Gold award in the "Digital or Computer Enhanced Images" in 2012. The Colleges' "Meet the Campus with John Heavey" earned a Gold Award in the 2011 Accolades Awards Program and in 2010 winning materials and programs included the Colleges' student recruitment package, Reunion news website, and Orientation video series. The Colleges' 3D website [www.hws.edu/3D], designed for prospective students, earned a Bronze Award in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) 2010 Circle of Excellence Awards. In 2009, the "Top 10" admissions website developed internally earned Honorable Mention. In 2008, the Centennial website earned a Silver Award.  Additionally, HWS earned a bronze award in the 2008 CASE Circle of Excellence Award, Complete Website category. And, in 2006, the Colleges earned a Bronze Award in the "Creativity on a Shoestring" category.
