Throughout his career, Trustee Daniel L. Rosensweig '83 has created internship opportunities for HWS students to work directly with him in California. Recently, the chief executive officer and president of Chegg helped Erin O'Brien '14 find an internship in sales and marketing in New York City. This summer, O'Brien will intern with Schoology, a collaborative learning platform for K-12 and higher education classes. There she will have the opportunity to work with the business development team in market research and management of potential partnership opportunities.
"Dan Rosensweig helped me so much throughout the year with the process of finding an internship," says O'Brien, an economics major.
She met Rosensweig on campus earlier this year and discussed her interest in a career in sales and marketing with him. "He was very enthusiastic about helping me find some opportunities," she says.
"I am so grateful to Dan for offering internships to and networking our students into meaningful opportunities. His commitment to the Colleges and our students is remarkable," says Brandi Ferrara, director of The Salisbury Center for Careers Services and Professional Development. "Alums like him help to give our students an additional edge in a competitive market."
Schoology includes attendance records, grade books, homework, tests and quizzes and encourages collaboration within a class through social media features. O'Brien was very attracted to the atmosphere of the company and the responsibilities the internship entails.
"This opportunity will allow me to explore and learn a great deal about sales and marketing which have been my career interests all along," she explains.
On campus, O'Brien is a member of the William Smith basketball team. Most recently, she earned a spot on the 2012-2013 Liberty League All-Academic Team.
Rosensweig has provided numerous internship opportunities to students through Chegg and in his previous position at Yahoo!, often offering these students job opportunities following graduation. He dedicated the Rosensweig Learning Commons at HWS in 2008. During his time as a Hobart student, Rosensweig was a political science major and studied abroad in London.
"I am very excited about my internship at Schoology this summer," says O'Brien. "Dan opened a door that I would have not found without him!"
