The William Smith College soccer team moved up three spots to 6th in the nation in this weeks' National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III poll. The Herons were ranked 5th this week by D3soccer.com.
William Smith (4-1-0) has now shut out three nationally ranked opponents. The Herons defeated then No. 1 Messiah 1-0 back on Sept. 7. William Smith then cruised to a 3-0 win over then No. 25 Rochester on Saturday and edged then No. 5 Ithaca 1-0 on Sunday on their way to capturing the 2013 Upstate Collegiate Cup.
The Herons rank second in the Liberty League in points (35) and assists (11) and are tied for second in goals (12) and shutouts (3). First-year Kara Shue is tied for third in the conference and leads William Smith with eight points and three goals. Junior Madeline Buckley is tied for second in the league with a team-high three assists.
Senior goalie Chelsea Dunay has played all but 6:30 in goal and is sporting a 0.81 goals against average and a .818 save percentage.
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 21, when they travel to Fredonia for a non-league match at 2 p.m
