



Hobart and William Smith Colleges are very excited to announce the details of the 2009 Kids College Summer Camp! This year, Kids College will have returning leaders - a husband-and-wife pair of teachers who are alums and parents alike. John '95 and Carin (Caravita '92) Cunningham, who teach at Geneva's North Street Elementary School.
CAMP DIRECTORS
Carin (Caravita) Cunningham '92
Graduated from DeSales High School in 1988, William Smith College in
1992 with a B.A. Major in English and Education minor. She received
her M.S. in Education from University of New England in 2003 and
holds permanent certification. Cunningham has taught grades 3-5 since
1995 and currently teaches 4th grade at North Street Elementary in
Geneva. She teaches extended studies at North Street Elementary
School, grades K-5. She serves on the District Literacy Team, and has
established Helping Hands Community Service group. She is co-leader
of Student Council at North Street, Ski Club Advisor, Little League
Softball Coach.
John Cunningham '95
Graduated From Francis Lewis High School, Queens, NY in 1986 and
Hobart College in 1995 with a Major in Psychology. He received his
Masters from Nazareth College in 2001 and holds permanent
certification in general and Special Education. He is also certified
in Literacy Collaborative from Lesley University 2005 and has taught
grades 4-5 since 1995. He is currently the Literacy Coordinator at
North Street Elementary for grades 3-5. He serves on the District
Literacy Team, Building Literacy Team and Site Council, at NSS Lake
Deleware Boys Camp, Delhi NY and has been the Assistant Director for
7 years. He is also a Ski Club Adviser.
Paula Foote '08
Paula graduated from Sidney High School, Sidney, NY in 2003. She received her B.A. in psychology with a minor in education in 2007 and her Master of Arts in Teaching in 2008 from William Smith College. Paula is currently teaching 5th grade at North Street School. Paula was a member of the William Smith basketball team and led the Herons to numerous Liberty League Championships, one ECAC Championship and three NCAA Tournament Appearances, advancing as far as the Sweet 16. She is the coach of the Geneva 8th Grade Girls' basketball team. Paula was a teacher last year with Kids College and is looking forward to another fun-filled summer.
Sheila Myers
A graduate of SUNY-Cortland with a master’s degree from the State College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse University, Sheila Myers has been teaching adults and youth about the environment for more than 15 years. Sheila has been with the Finger Lakes Institute at Hobart and William Smith since 2006. As the education outreach coordinator, Sheila works with school groups and educates them about the Finger Lakes. Before FLI, she worked part-time as an educator at a nature center and as an education program leader at Cornell Cooperative Extension.
This will be the third summer that Sheila has offered the Finger Lakes Exploration Camp to youth interested in learning more about their natural environment.

Grade levels for the camps
The six-week Kids College offers three age-groupings, for children
who have completed second and third grades, fourth and fifth grades,
and sixth and seventh grades. Each group will be limited to 15
students.
Facilities Used for Kids College
The Hobart and William Smith Kids College utilizes the facilities
and resources of the Colleges to provide children an opportunity to
have a summer full of academic activity and fun in a safe and
friendly environment.
• Kids College will be centered at Napier classrooms.
• The Scandling Center will provide a daily buffet style lunch.
When attending a field trip, students will receive a bag lunch from
the Scandling Center.
• Transportation to field trips will be provided by certified
drivers
in the HWS Van Fleet and contracted commercial bus.
• The students will swim in Bristol Pool daily under the
supervision of Red Cross certified lifeguards.
Bring your bathing suit, sunscreen and towel every day!

July 6 - 10 |
• This week we will play games of all types: mind games, sports games, logic games, team games, board games, etc. Try games such as chess, tennis, squash, Sudoku. Listen to guest speakers such as local coaches. It's all fun!. • Field trip to Roseland Water Park. |

July 13 - 17 |
• This year students will work on making stained glass windows, sculptures and print making. • Mr. Jon George will return as our guest artist to inspire all of us with his witty style. |

July 20 - 24 |
• This week, each class will learn a new language, study cultures from around the world and create their own native dish to be shared at our own International Fair. • Languages such as Spanish, Latin and Chinese will be featured. • Field trip to NYS Wine and Culinary Center |

• Experience many aspects of nature and science. • Guest Professors from the College will visit and help us conduct experiments. • Conservation and "green" activities will be incorporated as well. • Garden Art (making stepping stones, lanterns, etc) will make this week even more exciting. • Field Trip to Letchworth State Park |

• We will make family trees, write autobiographies and consider career options. • A Community Service activity will be set into action as "Kids College Gives Back!" • Walking Field trips to local businesses to explore careers. • Graduation Friday, August 7 at 3:00 p.m. in the Vandervort Room, Scandling Campus Center. |
