Director of Leadership Giving
Office of Advancement

SUMMARY:

Responsible for effectively cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding an assigned group of leadership giving prospects. As part of a team of colleagues who are responsible for raising gifts from leadership donors, this person will also be a valuable contributor to team goals. This position will raise valuable financial resources to meet the Colleges' fundraising priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively manage Colleges' philanthropic relationship for approximately 150 to 200 potential leadership (major and planned) giving donors.
  • Make a minimum of 125 to 150 face-to-face visits with alumni, alumnae, parents, and friends.
  • Work with Advancement colleagues to coordinate annual, capital, and planned giving solicitations to leadership giving prospects.
  • Solicit 18 or more proposal of $50,000 or more.
  • Annually, raise $1 million dollars in new commitments.
  • Recognize, cultivate, and solicit simple planned gifts including bequests and charitable gift annuities.
  • Help coordinate strategies for the Colleges' senior officers, high-level volunteers, and trustees so they may participate in the solicitation and management of leadership giving prospects.
  • Work collaboratively with Leadership Giving, Annual Fund, Donor Relations and Alumni and Alumnae Relations colleagues to ensure cohesive and strategic communications with all constituents.
  • Identify and cultivate current and potential leadership giving donors within a regional framework.
  • Create an annual plan of work on how to manage relationships, accomplish travel, and close gifts for designated Colleges' projects.
  • Attend reunion, parents' weekend, staff retreats and alumni/ae events in addition to volunteer gatherings, regional and fund-raising events, as needed.
  • When necessary, assist in the planning of special events and other development projects.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree required and three to five years in major and/or planned giving fund-raising for higher education or the non-profit sector preferred. Individual with proven success in sales or financial services are encouraged to apply. This job requires a high degree of energy and a pro-active work style; interpersonal skills that include good judgment, teamwork, intuition, persuasive and motivational abilities; excellent written communication skills; the ability to listen; a commitment to higher education, especially Hobart and William Smith Colleges; resourcefulness and flexibility; a willingness to travel frequently; and the ability to effectively learn and use the Colleges' software donor bases and other technology systems.

OTHER INFORMATION:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative position. Normal campus office hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year with a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.
