Hubbs Health Center provides medical services to students. The staff promotes wellness, treats acute illnesses and injuries and serves students with special medical problems and needs. Health education on issues including fitness, wellness, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases and substance abuse is an important focus of the center.
The staff also works with the athletic departments to provide sports medicine services to all intercollegiate teams including pre-participation physical exams.
Hubbs Health Center is predominately a walk-in clinic. The staff makes every attempt to see patients in a timely manner. Women’s health visits are made by appointment only and need to be scheduled in advance.
Patients with scheduled appointments in the women’s clinic or for consultation with our physician and those asked to come in for an evaluation may be seen first. Priority must be given to the very ill or injured. Patients with minor or chronic medical problems may experience a longer wait during our busiest times (in the late mornings and late afternoons).
Students will first be evaluated by a nurse (called triage) and either be treated by the triage nurse, referred to a mid-level medical provider or M.D., or asked to make an appointment for further evaluation at a later date. A student may be assigned a return time for later in the same day if all providers are busy at the time the student was screened.
Students who are more seriously ill or injured will be sent to Geneva General Hospital for further evaluation. For emergencies while the center is closed, call security (ext. 3333) or go directly to the Geneva General Hospital Emergency Room.
If a student arrives for evaluation after 5 p.m., the triage nurse may advise a return visit for the following morning when the providers are available for regular office hours. The providers do not make "dorm visits." If friends or family speak to a student and they are very ill, the student should be advised to come to the health center during regular office hours for evaluation.
Students who miss class for illness or are asked to provide an excuse should be aware that the health center does not normally write excuses for missed classes. It is the student’s responsibility to discuss missed classes with his or her instructor.
Information shared at the health center is held under the strictest confidence. No health information will be shared with parents, professors, or administrators without the permission of the student
Students with questions about health center policy should ask to make an appointment with Betti Green, R.N.-C ANP, the Coordinator of Medical Services at Hubbs.
All HWS students are enrolled in a health insurance plan through Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and should have recieved an insurance ID card in the mail. If you have questions about the student insurance plan, please contant Excellus by visiting their Web site (www.excellusbcbs.com).
