My original plan coming to HWS was to study film. I wasn't completely set on the idea, so like many of my liberal arts peers I registered for an array of classes my first semester with “Intro to Art History” being one of them. I’d taken art history in high school and loved it. That first semester I figured out I loved two areas of study (Art History, Media and Society) so much that I decided to double major.

While at HWS, I interned at American Ballet Theatre to get a taste of the arts administration field, and at RoGallery.com to experience more of the art business and auction industry. During my senior year, I realized I could finish my degree requirements a semester early and use the spring semester to try another internship and solidify my interests. With the help of the Career Services office, my advisers Assistant Professor of Art and Architecture Liliana Leopardi and Associate Professor of Media and Society Leah Shafer, and the Art History Department, I was accepted to the internship program at Christie's in New York in the Old Master Paintings Department. It wasn't easy leaving HWS early, but it certainly paid off.

During the internship, I began applying to jobs at Sotheby's, Christie's, and many others. Fortunately, as my internship was coming to an end, there was a position that opened up in my own department. I was asked to temporarily fill the role while simultaneously going through the interview process. It was probably the most stressful month of my life! I was offered the position of department coordinator in the Old Master Paintings Department and have been in the position ever since.

In my first months at Christie’s, I’ve learned a tremendous amount about the art and auction business. I’ve been exposed to businesses such as galleries, museums, design firms, and much more. As for my future plans, I’d like to get more involved in decorative arts and interior design. Between my HWS education and my experiences at Christie’s, I have a strong foundation that will allow me to take many different paths in the art world.
