During 24 hours of giving, supporters of HWS Athletics donated nearly $900,000.
The 2022 Hobart and William Smith Athletics Day of Donors yielded record-setting gifts and much celebration with $883,998 in support for the Statesmen and Herons. This is the single biggest fundraising day for the Colleges.
“On behalf of HWS Athletics, we all send our heartfelt thanks to the more than 3,000 alums, parents, student-athletes and friends of our 29 sports and support staffs who made a gift to this year’s record-breaking Athletics Day of Donors,” says Brian Miller, associate vice president and director of athletics and recreation. “These gifts will allow our programs to prosper and give us the ability to enhance the entire student-athlete experience, while providing the necessary funding to help each sport and individual reach their full potential.”
The fundraising total includes a challenge gift of $25,000 from James F. ’56, L.H.D. ’12 and Cynthia L. Caird L.H.D. ’12, which provided bonus money to the top three Hobart and top three William Smith teams for percentage of dollar goal met. William Smith rowing and Hobart soccer were the top finishers in the Caird Challenge. William Smith rowing raised 253% of their goal, while the Hobart soccer team raised 463%. On the William Smith side, Heron soccer (212%) and field hockey (205%) finished second and third, respectively. Finishing second to Hobart soccer was rowing (444%) while football (404%) was third.
The Cairds’ gift also supported prizes to the teams with the most creative fundraising videos.
First place was awarded to Hobart basketball, for their skit based on the popular TV show “The Office,” and William Smith soccer, who created a mystery for their audience to solve. Second place went to Hobart football and William Smith basketball. Third place was awarded to Strength and Conditioning and Sports Medicine.
