Objectives for the 110th Congress
While serving as district attorney, Congressman-elect Michael Arcuri initiated and expanded several crime prevention programs, including the Utica Arson Task Force, the Special Victims Unit within his office, the county’s Drug Court program, and the Drug Treatment Alternative to Prison program, which was one of the first such programs in upstate New York. He also worked with the county legislature to adopt the Drug Forfeiture Law, which has collected more than $1 million to fund public safety efforts.
A graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and New York Law School, Acuri holds one of the highest conviction rates in the state, consistently above 90 percent. Throughout his career, he has achieved other milestones. In 1997, he became the first man to win the Mohawk Valley Person of the Year Award from the YWCA for his work in the area of domestic violence and sexual abuse. In 2003, he was elected president of the New York State District Attorneys Association.
