Intersession Programs

Hobart and William Smith Colleges offer three intersession programs in which students can take courses for full academic credit. These programs are designed for current students, nonmatriculated college students, and others interested in taking a college credit for academic, professional, or personal reasons. The programs provide an opportunity for students to further their education experience with an HWS faculty member; to get ahead or back on track with graduation plans; and to address curricular requirements at HWS or at other institutions of higher education.

Maymester

The Maymester program runs from May 23 to June 10, 2022. Students take one course with an HWS faculty member for 3.5 hours, five days a week, during the three-week program. Classes are scheduled in the mornings, with afternoons and evenings for class preparation, projects, and assignments. Maymester courses are posted in early January. Current students can register online beginning in April. Non-matriculated students may register for courses by contacting Jamie MaKinster at MaKinster@hws.edu. The tuition for courses is $3,000.

Summer Session

Summer Session includes both a 3-week (June 13 to July 1) and a 5-Week program (June 13 to July 15). Students can take one course during the 3-week session and up to two courses in the 5-Week session. Current students can register online beginning in April. Non-matriculated students may register for courses by contacting Jamie MaKinster at MaKinster@hws.edu. The tuition for courses is $3,000.

J-Term

J-Term runs from January 4 to January 19, 2022. Current students and non-matriculated students will be able to take one course with an HWS faculty member for 3.5 hours, seven days a week (note that J-Term courses meet on weekends). Classes are scheduled in the mornings, with afternoons and evenings for class preparation, projects and assignments. The tuition for courses is $3,000. All 2022 J-Term courses will be offered remotely and students will not be in residence on campus.
