HOBART AND WILLIAM SMITH STANDARDIZED TESTING POLICY

Hobart and William Smith Colleges have proudly been test optional since 2006. This means we do not require you to submit standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) to be considered for admission.

At HWS, we do not use test scores as a comparative tool. Scores are reviewed in the context of the student’s whole application. All applications will be reviewed for consideration in a holistic manner, meaning every aspect of the application is valuable.

Additionally, all applicants will be considered for merit scholarships regardless of test score submission.

If you decide to submit test scores and have taken the SAT or ACT more than once, HWS will superscore your test scores. This means we will use the best individual section scores in reviewing your application. HWS does not require the optional writing section on either the SAT or ACT.

We will review applications from all students using either self-reported or official scores. Students who choose to submit self-reported test scores and are admitted are required to submit official scores.

SAT reporting code 2294. ACT reporting code 2758.

Standardized test scores may be requested for those applicants who attend a school (or are home schooled) that does not provide a traditional transcript.

If English is not your native language, we require submission of official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores.
