L. Thomas Melly '52, L.H.D. '02
L. Thomas Melly graduated from Hobart College in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in economics. A member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, he was a member of the football and lacrosse teams as well as the Interfraternity Council and Board of Control.
He retired as a partner from Goldman, Sachs & Co.
Melly was named Honorary Trustee as well as Chair Emeritus in 2008 after serving the Board for nearly 30 years. As the senior member of the Board, Melly led the Colleges' 1994-1998 Capital Campaign and is a current tri-chair of Campaign for the Colleges. His generosity has been instrumental in meeting Hobart and William Smith Colleges' Campaign for the Colleges goal, resulting in the naming of the two-story glass atrium of the performing arts center.
He has served as president of the Alumni Association, endowed several scholarships and funded the Melly Academic Center. Melly's many contributions and accomplishments were recognized in 1992 with an Alumni Citation and in 2002, when he received an honorary degree in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication.
