Charles H. Salisbury Jr. '63, P'94, L.H.D.'08

An American History major at Hobart, Charles Salisbury Jr. '63, P'94, L.H.D.'08 played varsity lacrosse and was vice president of the Board of Control and vice president of his first year class. As a member of Advanced ROTC, he served as commander of the Arnold Air Society and was named to the Dean's list. In 1973, he earned an M.B.A. with honors from Loyola College.

Salisbury was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force as a regular officer and served his country for more than five years with tours in the United States and Asia, attaining the rank of captain.

From 1970 – 1993, Salisbury held a variety of positions at T. Rowe Price Associates where he led the development of the fixed income department, was responsible for management of many of the firm's major equity and debt accounts, started two major mutual funds, and served in a number of supervisory and advisory roles for multiple T. Rowe Price mutual funds. Salisbury eventually was named President and Chief Investment Officer of the T. Rowe Price Trust Company. In 1994, Salisbury joined the United Asset Management Corporation where he was eventually elected Executive Vice President. He retired in 1998 and currently owns and directs Salisbury Broadcasting Company in Baltimore, Md.

Salisbury was a member of the Hobart and William Smith Board of Trustees from 1991-2007, serving as Chair from 1998-2006. As Chair, Salisbury provided ample evidence of his keen intellect and passionate leadership of these Colleges. He held such key positions as Chairman of the Board's executive and investment committees, and today leads the Campaign Steering Committee. Salisbury is member of the Wheeler Society, Seneca Society, and is a Statesmen Lifetime member. He received an Alumni Citation in 2003.

Salisbury's spirit of patronage can be felt in dozens of places on campus, from computer stations in the Library to the impressive opportunities of the Center for Career Services which bears his name. He was the lead donor for the renovation of Trinity Hall which now houses the Salisbury Center for Career Services, a destination point for all Hobart and William Smith students and a differentiator for the Colleges among peer institutions.

While generosity is one of his calling cards, so is innovation. The Charles H. Salisbury Jr. Summer International Internship Stipend is a unique and groundbreaking new type of undergraduate travel opportunity, a "mini- Fulbright" that rewards some of the Colleges' best minds with the chance to work and study abroad at a place of their choice.
