Carolyn Carr McGuire '78
Co-Founder, Community Consulting Teams
Carolyn Carr McGuire ’78 has dedicated her career to bringing individuals and communities in need together with the people, resources and groups that can help. As co-founder of Community Consulting Teams of Boston, she has helped connect hundreds of MBA graduates from leading business schools with nonprofits of limited resources in need of consulting. The innovative, all-volunteer organization provides free consulting services in the arts, education, social services, environment, youth services and health care, helping them better serve their constituents and amplifying their impact.
A former management consultant specializing in manufacturing and cost control, Carr McGuire helped establish Community Consulting Teams in 1991 and has served on the organization’s board for many years, including terms as chair and vice chair, and now as board co-chair. To date, Community Consulting Teams has worked with 180 nonprofit organizations across the Boston community.
At William Smith, Carr McGuire graduated cum laude with high honors in psychology. She was a teaching assistant, computer lab assistant and business editor of Echo and Pine. She later earned her master’s in business administration from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business.
A loyal alumna, Carr McGuire guided the Colleges as a member of the Hobart and William Smith Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2017, including a term as vice chair. She was a driving force in the creation of the Gearan Center for the Performing Arts.
In 2005, she and her husband Terry McGuire ’78 established the Carolyn Carr McGuire ’78 Endowed Scholarship. In 2007, they endowed the Carr McGuire House, preserving the historic former Sigma Chi fraternity while providing a substance-free residence option for students with a guest suite for visiting scholars and dignitaries.
