Terrence L. Martin '66
Journalist, CBS News
Terrence L. Martin ’66 built a storied and award-winning career in broadcast journalism. In his 34 years at CBS News, Martin served as an associate producer of the CBS Morning News; senior producer of the CBS Evening News, weekend edition; associate producer and then producer of the CBS Evening News, weekday editions; producer in the CBS Special Events unit; and executive producer at CBS Productions. He retired from CBS in 2005.
Among the many stories he brought to television audiences were Ronald Reagan’s presidential campaign, more than 15 presidential and mid-term elections, the Challenger memorial, the funeral of President Richard Nixon, the inauguration of President Bill Clinton and Hurricane Hugo.
“It was a magical time,” Martin recalled in the Classes of ’66 50th reunion book, “when news budgets were full and we could go almost anywhere there was a story.” He was the recipient of four Emmy awards.
At Hobart, Martin graduated with honors in history. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Gamma Mu and was editor of The Herald. He went on to earn a master’s in European history from Rutgers University and a master’s in journalism from Columbia University. As an alum, Martin was an engaged donor who served as a reunion volunteer.
Martin died in April 2019.
