My primary plan coming into college was to continue playing football. My secondary plan was to secure a job upon graduation. I was lucky enough to be recruited by Hobart coming out of high school, which allowed me to do both.

As a part of the Statesmen football team, I played all four years, earned Liberty League honors and helped the team set a record for one of the best seasons. But football didn't only play a role for me on the field; the team was very active off the field. The coaches stayed on top of us, making sure we succeeded in the classroom, while also making sure we were connected to resources for our pursuits outside of football. I majored in math and double minored in philosophy and cognition, logic & language. I utilized Career Services, which was instrumental in connecting me with various alums and securing interviews. With their guidance and support, I was able to earn the job offer I took with Chubb upon graduation.

I was also the DJ for Beef and Brew my junior and senior years at HWS. I’ve continued DJing in my free time in the greater Philadelphia area at various bars, restaurants, private parties and events. For the past two years, I've been a part of an entertainment agency called Schaffer Sound Productions.

Currently, I am a middle market renewal underwriter for Chubb working from its Malvern, PA., office with fellow alum Adam Schaefer '17. This is my second position with Chubb, as I entered the company as an associate underwriter. In my current role, I handle the review/underwriting of renewal accounts for our commercial insurance products. I am responsible for the Mid-Atlantic region as well as Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, California and a few other areas.

The path I took to get to where I am meant that I explored various fields. I worked in the shipping department at a Nordstrom until I landed my first internship in my junior year as a sales and marketing intern for The Bozzuto Group. In my senior year, I worked as a real estate appraisal intern for my county government in my home state of Virginia, while also working at Topgolf, a sports entertainment company. Although my jobs were all over the place, the important thing I did was keep myself positioned to take advantage of the next opportunity whenever it was presented.

My ties to the Statesmen football team and the Career Services office were the most beneficial for me. My teammates, the training staff and the coaches are family to me now. We are there for each other no matter what we are going through. Career Services helped me with my resume and got my foot in the door to many different places. They kept me notified of openings at various companies and of alums who were visiting campus for networking. I remain grateful for their assistance.

Looking toward the future, there is one thing that I am certain of – I am going to work for Chubb as long as I can and work my way up in the company as far as I can. Operating in more than 50 countries, Chubb is a global company that I love and believe in. I hope to be able to travel abroad for work at some point and explore different cultures around the world.
