I give because I appreciate the education I had. It enabled me to do well in the seminary the rest of my life. I learned to read and to write at Hobart and William Smith. I especially appreciated the accessibility of faculty. The Western Civilization course was even taught by the head of the department, who would share what he thought was most important. I was in a writing course where you had to write a 300-word essay once a week and every week you had to meet with the professor and defend every word. Also, at Hobart and William Smith, relationships were valued. I knew everyone. I was there when the Chapel was rededicated, and I represented the Class of 1964. That couldn’t have happened at a bigger college. I also played for the Hobart football team and during my senior year, I was recognized as the most improved player.
