Neural Simulation
We develop simulators for neuroscience education and research. We currently offer a suite of online simulators as part of the Applied Neural Control Toolkit (https://www.anctoolkit.com), which provides instruction on electrically activating the nervous system. The project is a collaboration with Dr. Thomas Mortimer, from the Biomedical Engineering Department at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. The simulators allow one to study the complex behavior of neurons and axons, particularly in the context of developing neuroprostheses for the treatment of nervous system disorders, such as paralysis, Parkinson’s disease, and epilepsy. Additionally, we collaborate with Dr. Chen Liu at Tianjin University, Tianjin, China in the development and analysis of models of Parkinson’s disease and the application of deep brain stimulation.

High Performance Computing
We develop techniques for software optimization and parallel computing, with a focus on simulation software. Currently, we are researching the efficiency of multithreading across different open source programming languages. We are building our own research computing cluster and have developed web-based tools for the management of batch programming.
