Research

My research examines how capitalist development structures and is structured by democratic politics in the United States. My current book explores the American cooperative movement from the mid-19th century through the New Deal. By drawing lessons from cooperative settlements, farmers' organizations, workers' cooperatives, alternative political parties, and radical unions, the book offers an account of how democratic organizations can fight for a society defined by free cooperation.
