13 January 2020 Careers in the Capitol: Day on the Hill 2020

Each January, the Day on the Hill program takes students inside governmental organizations, non-profits, NGOs and other Washington, D.C. institutions for a rare window into politics, policy and careers in the district.

This year, guided by Professor of Sociology Renee Monson and Associate Professor of Political Science Stacey Philbrick Yadav, students will attend panel discussions featuring alums who work for the U.S. Department of State, the Secret Service, Congressional representatives, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and non-governmental organizations, as well as a keynote address from Dr. Sandra Rivera 85, associate director at the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Hosted by the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, the annual Day on the Hill program offers students a chance to discover what it takes to get a job in the nations capital and the day-to-day routine of D.C. life. Students meet with alums, giving them opportunities to network and learn about internship and job opportunities.

The Salisbury Center hosts a range of career and networking events each winter break, including the Finance Experiences in New York and Boston, and the Behind the Scenes trip to Los Angeles and more, offering insight into careers in banking, finance, government, journalism, public policy, media and entertainment, and the nonprofit sector.

At these events, students establish important professional connections, engage with new people and perspectives, and even land internships and set the stage for possible future employment.
