16 July 2021 • Alums Pierson '21 Secures Job at Prudential Financial

Tyler Pierson ’21 accepts position at one of the world’s largest financial services institutions, Prudential Financial.

Graduating with a major in economics and a minor in entrepreneurial studies, Tyler Pierson ’21 will begin working as a financial advisor for Prudential.

Serving clients worldwide, the financial service firm provides life insurance, health insurance, retirement and other products to businesses and individual customers. At Prudential, Pierson will generate new clients, learn about the individual needs of his clients and establish personal networks. Through this position, Pierson plans to learn how to establish his own business in the future.

“A majority of my job will entail establishing a solid client base and building relationships so I can assist them in making their financial dreams become a reality,” says Pierson.

As a former wide receiver for the Statesmen football team, Pierson says the experience developed competencies in time efficiency, problem-solving and teamwork skills. “Playing football my freshman year at Hobart immediately gave me a great understanding of how to manage my time effectively and how to overcome adversity in a magnitude of situations.”

He says courses under the direction of Professor of Writing and Rhetoric Cheryl Forbes developed his confidence in his ability to speak and write effectively, as well as prepare him for job interviews.

“The final project I completed for the independent study ‘Intro to Marketing’ with Professor Forbes became a great conversation starter for me in interviews, and really helped me market myself to Prudential in particular,” he says.

He also tapped into the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education whose staff did “an excellent job in helping me build my network by providing me with various alum connections in the economics field,” he says.

At HWS, Pierson was also a member of the Finance Club and Investment Club where he learned about investment management, investment banking and financial technology. Additionally, he studied abroad in Galway, Ireland.
