The national list recognizes Hobart and William Smith’s academic excellence, affordability and career outcomes for graduates.
In the 2022 edition of Best Value Colleges, Princeton Review ranks Hobart and William Smith among the nation’s schools offering the best return on investment. One of only 209 colleges chosen, Hobart and William Smith have been included in the annual rankings of best-value colleges for seven consecutive years.
Hobart and William Smith’s inclusion in Best Value Colleges was calculated using more than 40 data points covering academics, affordability, career prospects and job satisfaction for graduates. Princeton Review surveyed more than 650 institutions.

Earlier this academic year, the 2022 edition of Princeton Review’s Best 387 Colleges ranked Hobart and William Smith among the top in the nation for “Great Professors,” paying tribute to HWS faculty who have a “truly stellar record of student satisfaction.” Princeton Review also recognized HWS as a Green College, for leadership in sustainability and environmental responsibility.
In 2021, HWS also earned a No. 3 ranking as a top liberal arts institution for service in Washington Monthly’s College Guide and Rankings.
