3 December 2024 Barile and Bishop Receive 2024 CSPA Awards

Campus Life staff are celebrated by College Student Personnel Association of New York State.

Becca Barile, Vice President of Campus Life and Director of the Master of Arts in Higher Education Leadership, and Joshua Bishop, Director of Community Values and Conflict Resolution, have been recognized for their contributions to the HWS community and to the greater higher education landscape by College Student Personnel Association of New York State.

The College Student Personnel Association is a student affairs organization that provides professional development programs and networking opportunities in higher education.

Barile won the Distinguished Service to the Profession Award, which is given to higher education professionals with more than 10 years of experience and celebrates efforts that drive positive change and make extensive impact in student affairs practices within New York State.

Bishop won the Dr. Daniel Bratton Award for Outstanding Service to the Association,  presented to an exemplary member of the College Student Personnel Association of New York State for remarkable service and commitment to the field of higher education.

“I am incredibly honored to receive this recognition,” Barile says. “I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute through my research and leadership of our our higher education graduate program, and Campus Life office, and through emotional intelligence course curriculum development, mentorship, and talks on gender inclusivity in the workplace.”

Barile was appointed Vice President for Campus Life and Dean of Students in 2021 after serving 11 years at HWS, most recently as Associate Vice President for Campus Life. As the senior student affairs officer, she coordinates student support services, including Student Engagement (Student Activities and Residential Education), Campus Safety, Sustainability, the Hubbs Health Center, the Counseling Center, Student Conduct, WEOS/WHWS, Campus Store, international student success, and Alcohol and Other Drugs Treatment and Prevention.

“To be considered for the award that has been given to legends of the Association is truly the deepest honor to me,” Bishop says. “It was also exciting that out of the five state association awards that were given, two came from Hobart and William Smith, a testament to the great work happening on our campus!”

Within the Campus Life Office, Bishop supports the holistic student experience and works in collaboration with students on issues related to behavioral choices and community expectations.
