Teresa Pietrusinski ’22 joins podcast to invite public to environmental education programs at the Montezuma Audubon Nature Center.
Environmental educator at the Montezuma Audubon Nature Center Teresa Pietrusinski ’22 recently joined the FLX Morning Podcast to share environmental education opportunities and conservation updates taking place at the 50,000-acre landscape of wetlands and associated uplands in Upstate N.Y.
In her role, Pietrusinski leads programs such as guided birding tours and wetland education information sessions.
Pietrusinski says her path to working in environmental education began with a deep appreciation for nature.
“I loved learning about nature and how I interact with nature. I became really interested in birding and with Montezuma being so close, it was a great opportunity to learn more about the environment,” Pietrusinski told FLX Morning Podcast Host Ted Baker.

Her interest in birding sparked during a “Birding in our Landscape” course with Professor of Biology Mark Deutchlander. While the coursework for “Birding in our Landscape” includes examining population trends and geographical distributions of birds, students are also introduced to how ornithological studies can be a lens to explore the impacts of urbanization, pollution and pesticides, climate change and more.
At HWS, Pietrusinski majored in environmental science, minored in women's studies and studied topics in environmental justice. She is currently working towards her M.S. in Parks and Resource Management at the Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.
