23 July 2024 HWS Lauded by Colleges of Distinction
The annual list of accolades calls out HWS’ career services and commitment to equity and inclusion.
Hobart and William Smith was named to Colleges of Distinction’s yearly list of top higher ed institutions. In addition to the recognition for fostering “engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes,” HWS is cited for outstanding career development programming and a dedication to equity and inclusion.
“HWS is a place where students prepare to make an impact on the world by taking on challenging questions alongside faculty mentors who are experts in their field,” says Provost and Dean of Faculty Sarah Kirk. “It’s wonderful to see our community recognized for this outstanding work.”
In its celebration of schools excelling in career development, Colleges of Distinction noted that “employers are looking for workers who can remain dedicated, competent, and reliable in the face of new challenges.” HWS is among those schools most “in tune with the ever-changing job market and…integrat[ing] future careers into the present curriculum.”
HWS was also recognized among those institutions that “not only enliven their curriculum with high-impact practices, but…also make these practices accessible in a welcoming community.”

Since 2000, Colleges of Distinction has helped students and families navigate the college selection process. Their annual lists recognizes schools that deliver on four overarching qualities: student engagement, teaching, community and outcomes.
