A gift from Alex Clyde P’24 and Tom Meskan P’24 pays tribute to their son’s academic and cocurricular experiences at HWS.

From his first steps in Geneva for an on-campus tour to his graduation this past spring, John Meskan ’24 knew that Hobart and William Smith was the place for him. As John progressed through his four years, HWS delivered a set of experiences with students, faculty and administrators that led his family to a deep level of belief in and support of the Colleges.

"It continued to be even better than advertised on every level,” says his parents, Alex Clyde P’24 and Tom Meskan P’24.

One component of John’s experience was his revival of the Hobart Club Hockey program in the post-COVID setting, helping classmates reconnect to the rich opportunities and relationships available outside the classroom. His co-captain, Ollie Tauscher ’25, continues to accelerate these efforts during the 2024/2025 academic year when the team will compete in the Upstate New York, Collegiate Hockey League.

As members of the Parents Executive Committee, Clyde and Meskan have been strong advocates for HWS, hosting admissions events, helping students build relationships through the HWS Career Network and supporting the HWS Parents Fund.

In honor of John’s efforts, and to sustain them into the future, his parents recently made a generous commitment to the team.

With this gift to Hobart Club Hockey, Clyde and Meskan say their “primary goal is to help provide appropriate resourcing for club sports, offering students who played in high school more opportunities for camaraderie and competition as they pursue their undergraduate degrees. We also believe that a rich array of club sport and other co-curricular activities can play a helpful role in garnering incremental applications for enrollment.”

After his graduation this spring, John — an economics major and entrepreneurial studies minor — joined CVS Health as an analyst in the corporation’s finance leadership development program, where he began three, one-year rotations in controllership fundamentals, finance planning and analysis, and data analysis and visualization.

As Meskan and Clyde say, “Because we are so appreciative of our son John’s experience at HWS, we believe it is important to provide on-going support beyond his tenure at the Colleges.”
