11 September 2024 HWS Wind Ensemble Welcomes Musicians for New Season By Colin Spencer '19
With more than 20 years of teaching experience, the new Ensemble Director is eager to share his passion for music.
Building on its legacy of musical excellence, the Hobart and William Smith Wind Ensemble returns, led by a seasoned director who is actively seeking new musicians to join.
“I am very excited to share my passion, knowledge and experience with students and community members and am deeply committed to excellence and education in every aspect in my work,” says Ensemble Director Steven Zugelder. “This group is open to all woodwind, brass and percussion performers regardless of experience. The Ensemble is geared to creating an opportunity for music creation for students, faculty and community members.”
The Wind Ensemble will explore a rich and diverse repertoire, he explains.
Weekly rehearsals take place on Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m. in Room 119 of the Gearan Center for the Performing Arts on Pulteney Street.
Membership is open to HWS students, faculty, staff and anyone from the surrounding community.
A concert will be held at the end of each semester.
Zugelder earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music Performance and Music Education from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. He has taught as a band director in the West Irondequoit Central School District for 24 years, at Nazareth University for 12 years and performs as an active freelance trombonist in the Rochester area.
