19 July 2024 • Athletics Walker ’24 set to work at Fidelity Investments as Financial Representative By Zack Koons

Thomas Walker ’24 accepts position with Fidelity Investments after successful internship with the firm last summer.

After interning with Fidelity Investments last summer and earning his bachelor’s degree in economics this spring, Thomas Walker ’24 accepted a position as a financial representative with Fidelity, one of the largest asset managers in the world. In this position, Walker will work alongside wealth advisors and consultants, offering financial planning and investment management services to clients.

Walker says he was very familiar with the company, which is headquartered in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, because of its well-known prowess in the financial industry.

During his internship last year, Walker worked at Fidelity Investments in the wealth management branch in Chestnut, Mass., where he got an up-close look at the profession of skilled financial representatives, advisors and consultants. He says a large part of the internship was communicating and networking within the company, and watching seasoned professionals as they helped their clients manage their finances and livelihoods.

He says his time in the classroom will help him in his new role as well.

“I gained strengths through my economics major and minors in environmental science and entrepreneurial studies. My advisors, Instructor of Economics Jennifer Tessendorf and Professor Tom Drennen, were continuously supportive in guiding me through the process of developing and pursuing my interests within the Economics Department and my overall journey here at HWS over the past four years,” he says.

Guided by the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, he also held an internship with Rockland Trust Bank in retail banking as a sophomore. In this internship, Walker says he developed skills in a client-facing role which helped him secure his internship at Fidelity.

As a student at HWS, Walker was a member of the HWS Investment Club, a board member of Delta Chi fraternity and a four-year member of the HWS Sailing Team. As a Statesmen, he made his collegiate debut at the Big Red invite in 2022, finishing in fifth place. In his senior season, he finished first at the Navy Team Race Invite, fifth at the Washington College Open Team Race and seventh at the Admiral's Cup.

“The HWS experience has instilled in me valuable life skills including discipline and leadership experiences on the sailing team.”
