23 January 2025 Fostering Unity

HWS to host a campus event inspired by Dr. King’s vision of non-violence and community building.

Celebrating the life and legacy of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Hobart and William Smith will host an interfaith panel discussion to reflect on the themes of community and harmony.

On Tuesday, Jan. 28, a panel of HWS community members will discuss Dr. King’s vision of an inclusive society and explore ways to nurture that vision on our campus and beyond. The discussion titled “HWS MLK 2025: Re/Building Beloved Community” aims to inspire dialogue and action.

The interfaith panel will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Froelich Hall of the Gearan Center for the Performing Arts. Community members are encouraged to attend the event as an opportunity to reflect on unity, justice and the efforts needed to build a truly beloved community.

The panelists are:

  • Resident Imam Shaheed Ali, Director of the Muslim Life Center;
  • Professor of Religious Studies and Scholar of the Jewish Experience Michael Dobkowski;
  • Student Government President Sophia Mughal ’25 and
  • HWS Trustee, The Rt. Rev. Kara Wagner Sherer.

A reception will immediately follow in the Stine Room of the Adams Intercultural Center.

All events are free and open to the public.
