12 February 2025 Nutrition, Fitness and Faith During Ramadan By Sydney Herbruck '25
During her visit to campus, personal trainer Saman Munir will discuss the defining moment in her fitness journey: climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.

In recognition of Ramadan, Hobart and William Smith will welcome personal trainer Saman Munir for a discussion at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 in Bartlett Theatre. Organized by the Muslim Life Center and the Muslim Students Association, Munir’s talk will explore the important connection between nutrition, fitness, and faith in preparation for the Muslim tradition of fasting during Ramadan. This year, Ramadan begins at sundown of Friday, Feb. 28 and continues for 30 days, concluding at sundown on Saturday, March 29.
During her talk, Munir will share the defining moment of her fitness journey: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest free-standing mountain. She considers the climb as her greatest challenge—one that pushed her limits and left a lasting impact on her life.
As highlighted in an interview with Women’s Best, Munir is a “mother of three, fitness influencer, entrepreneur, and proud Hijabi Muslim woman from Mississauga, Canada.” She has created a space for Muslim women in the fitness world. “Initially when I began my fitness journey, it definitely was not common to see that representation of Muslim female athletes in the boxing and fitness world. However, I am glad to see that statistic is positively changing and more women are breaking that stereotype. I don’t believe my presence and content is something that surprises the Muslim community since there are tons of talented women in various fields within our community,” Munir says during the interview.
Organizers urge the HWS community to join this unique opportunity to learn how to train during Ramadan, and hear of Munir’s story of endurance.
