19 March 2018 Bilinski 13 Publishes Debut Novel
Lady of Sherwood, the first young adult novel by Molly Bilinski 13, is the initial book of a planned series (Outlaws of Sherwood) that reimagines the legend of Robin Hood, one of Bilinskis favorite stories.
Published in 2017 by Clean Teen Publishing, the novel, which is now available at the Hobart and William Smith College Store, follows Robin of Lockesly, a heroine who refuses an arranged marriage, resulting in terrible consequences that cause Robin to begin a new life as an outlaw.
A chemistry major and theatre minor, Bilinski honed her writing skills at HWS. She was editor of the Martini and wrote for the campus newspaper as well, which forced me to look at word choice, and be more concise, she recalls.
Minoring in theater let me read a wide variety of plays and other texts and that, along with my experiences abroad in Wales, gave me a lot to work with in terms of learning how to put together a good story, Bilinski says. On the science side of things, writing a novel is, in some ways, a little like a long-term experiment you have to keep working through the different stages of.
As a student Bilinski was a member of Koshare and earned the Presidents Civic Leadership Award. She currently lives in Buffalo, N.Y, where she works as a certified asphalt lab technician and is in the process of writing the sequel to Lady of Sherwood.
