2 June 2020 • Alums Boysen '11 Tackles Gun Violence
Dan Boysen '11, the fundraising manager at Everytown for Gun Safety, joined the President's Forum Lecture Series on Thursday, Nov. 10, discussing his work with the non-profit organization that works to reduce gun violence in America. Boysen's talk took place in the Geneva Room of the Warren Hunting Smith Library.
As a student, Boysen majored in political science and earned a double minor in public policy and international relations. He participated in the Day on the Hill program twice as a student and every year since he graduated, serving as a panelist alongside other HWS alums and special guests.
Following graduation, he moved to Washington, D.C., where through the help of the HWS career network, he landed a fundraising internship with The Frost Group, a boutique PAC fundraising firm. He later worked for two years for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on fundraising efforts in the western states.
After the 2014 elections, he landed his current role at Everytown, based in New York City. In this position, he serves as the organization's only in-house fundraising employee and helps lead the major donor team in creating and implementing a yearly finance plan.
Founded by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Everytown is the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country. The organization is active in more than 35 states and is committed to employing a multi-faceted, non-partisan and data driven approach to reducing gun violence in the United States.
The Presidents Forum Series will next welcome retired Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), who will join HWS on Monday, Nov. 14, to discuss his decades of public service work, including his efforts to introduce the Americans with Disabilities Act to the Senate.
Established in the winter of 2000 by President Mark D. Gearan, the President's Forum Series is designed to bring a variety of speakers to campus to share their knowledge and ideas with students, faculty and staff of the Colleges, as well as with interested community members. Recent guests include Michael B. Curry '75, the 27th Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church; HWS Trustee and 60 Minutes Correspondent Bill Whitaker '73, L.H.D. '97; and The Hon. Shireen Avis Fisher '70, Justice of the Residual Special Court for Sierra Leone.
