16 May 2021 Celebrating Posse 5 Scholars

The Colleges celebrated the graduation of the fifth cohort of students who came to HWS through the renowned college access and youth leadership program.

Hobart and William Smith celebrated graduating seniors who are part of the fifth cohort of Posse Scholars at the Colleges on Saturday, May 15. As Posse Scholars, the students are part of one of the most successful college access and youth leadership programs in the country.

Members of the Posse 5 cohort are: LeilaniAnderson 21, Kevin Cervantes 21, Dante Herrera 21, Faith Hicks 21, Alexis Martinez 21, GiselleMiranda 21, RobertPadilla 21, LorenaRobelo-Lara 21 and FerdySimons-Barrientos 21.

The special ceremony, recognizing the academic and personal achievements of these seniors on the eve of Commencement, was heldon Stern Lawn.

The event featured a tribute to students from Posse 5 mentor, Associate Vice President Campus Safety Marty Corbett, as well as remarks from President Joyce P. Jacobsen; Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Khuram Hussain; Assistant Dean of Student Engagement Shelle Basilio-Murray; and Posse staff members.

Posse helps to identify promising youth in public high schools around the country through a process that takes into account academic and leadership potential that may have been overlooked by standard practices. In doing so, Posse expands the pool from which top colleges and universities recruit students from diverse backgrounds.Hobart and William Smith joined Posse in 2012.
