12 October 2018 • STEM Grown to Give Harvest Celebration

As part of National Food Week, the HWS Chef's Collaborative Garden will host Grown to Give Harvest Celebration, on Monday, Oct. 22 at HWS Fribolin Farm. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., the culinary event features hand grown and crafted ingredients from regional chefs.

Since April, Chefs Orlando Rodriguez of Glenora Wine Cellars' Veraisons Restaurant and Starr Andrews and Taylor Higgins of Halsey's Restaurant have worked alongside HWS Farm Interns and HWS Finger Lakes Institute Food Systems Program Manager Sarah Meyer to plant, manage and harvest produce from a shared garden at HWS Fribolin Farm. Their harvests have supported low-budget gardening education and improved food security in the Geneva community.

In celebration of their fruitful harvest, the Grown to Give Harvest Celebration features a menu of heavy hors d'oeuvres and small plate stations, such as an infused and seasoned butter bar with homemade breads; a buffet of garden preserves, jams, spreads, dips, pickled cucumbers, beets and garlic scapes; and eggplant parmesan with black cherry tomato sauce.

Guest chefs participating in the event are Maggie O'Reilly '16 of Maggie's Greens, Michael D'Angelo and Julie Bazan '93 of Luigi's Old World Market & Cafe, Carl Bray of Geneva On The Lake and Samantha Buyskes of H.J. Stead Company.

Proceeds benefit continued initiatives of the FLI Food Systems Program, including the Little Free Farmstand, Growing Geneva Together Garden Coalition, Seed to Supper Low Budget Garden Education Program and future harvests at HWS Fribolin Farm.

The many supporters of the event include, HWS Dining Services/Sodexo, Finger Lakes Institute at HWS, Glenora Wine Cellars Veraisons Restaurant, Halsey's Restaurant, Geneva On The Lake, H.J. Stead Company, Three Brothers Wineries & Estates, Red Jacket Orchards, Maggie's Greens, Billsboro Winery, Finger Lakes Distilling, Muranda Cheese Company, Regional Access, Lake Drum Brewing and Growing Geneva Together Community Garden Coalition.
