Director of Elementary Education and Coordinator of Student Supervision Jennifer Harris P21 was featured on the cover of the February edition of Rochester Womans Magazine. Harris, who started the nonprofit Thrive to Survive and organizes the annual Middle Finger 5K race to benefit people battling cancer, has raised thousands of dollars for families struggling financially after their diagnoses.
In the eight-page article titled How She Thrives to Survive, Harris discusses the struggles of being a mother and wife after her son was diagnosed with brain cancer. She details the lack of resources that are available to families when faced with a diagnosis which prompted her to start an organization that could help cancer patients pay for treatments and other needs.
100% of what we raise goes directly to people living with cancer, Harris says. We are a small board of (now) 5, and we do all of this on top of our full-time jobs and families. We are all super passionate about helping others and giving back.
This years Middle Finger 5K run will take place on Saturday, May 5, with the goal of increasing awareness for the mission of Thrive to Survive and to support patients and families battling cancer. Register to compete in the race here.
