At the Hobart Launch, alumni celebrate members of the Class of 2021.
On Friday, May 14, the Hobart College Alumni Association will officially welcome graduating seniors at the annual Hobart Launch. The traditional celebration, which begins at 1 p.m. on Stern Lawn, includes the presentation of senior gifts and remarks from HWS alum leadership.
This tradition is an important part of Commencement week, bringing together the Hobart community to share in the celebration. As the Class of 2021 approaches their next chapter, the Hobart Launch reflects the bonds among alumni across generations and their support of one another, says Director of Alumni and Alumnae Relations Chevanne DeVaney 95, P21, P25.
DeVaney will offer the introduction at the Launch, followed by remarks from Hobart Dean Scott Brophy 78, P12.The events keynote speaker is William Sherman 85, P21, former executive vice president of Nat Sherman, the world-famous maker of luxury cigars.
The Reverend Nita C. Johnson Byrd, Dean of Spiritual Engagement and Chaplain, will offer a benediction before the presentation of the traditional senior gift, a paddle bearing the Hobart seal, a symbol of Hobarts heritage and the shared commitment among alumni.
A reception will follow, with cigars courtesy of Sherman and refreshments courtesy of Alfred Fred Matt 81, owner of F.X. Matt Brewing Company.
