9 April 2021 • Athletics Hobart Skates Past Skidmore
The Hobart College hockey team knocked off Skidmore 4-1 in an exhibition game at The Cooler this afternoon. Four different Statesmen scored a goal in victory.
Sophomore Brenden Howell and first-year Artem Buzoverya shared game-high honors with two points each. Senior Phil Satin, and first-years Kevin Lassman and Matthieu Wuth also notched goals for the Statesmen. Senior Garrett McGowan and juniors Joe Halstrom and Liam Lascelle combined to make 18 saves.
Tyler Hall scored the goal for the Thoroughbreds. Danny Lassman, Brian Kowalski and Tate Brandon combined to stop 56 shots in the Skidmore goal.
Howell opened the scoring 94 seconds into the game. He collected a cross ice pass from Christian Duvall and buried a shot past Lassman. Buzoverya was credited with the secondary assist on the goal. Three minutes later, Satin buried what would prove to be the game-winning goal. He wristed a shot from the low slot into the back of the net. Wuth nearly gave Hobart a 3-0 lead with two minutes left in the period, but his shot hit the crossbar. The Statesmen dominated the opening 20 minutes, finishing with a 20-3 edge in shots on goal.
Hobart continued to apply pressure in the second period, dominating the time of possession. In the middle part of the period both teams fired shots off the post. Callahan Johnson beat Halstrom with a shot but hit the right goal post. A minute later, Senior Mike Faulkner's slapshot from the point hit the left goal post. With just over four minutes remaining in the middle frame, Lassman blasted a shot through traffic past Kowalski. Howell and Buzoverya were credited with assists on the goal.
Hall broke up the shutout bid at the 6:01 mark of the third period. He wristed a shot from a tough angle past Lascelle. Everett Wardle and Mike Gelatt were credited with assists. Wuth iced the game for Hobart with an empty net goal from center ice.
The Statesmen finished the game with a 56-19 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
