For best practices in fundraising and excellence in photography, Hobart and William Smith Colleges have earned recognition from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in its 2020 District II Accolades program. CASE District II is the largest of all member regions in North America.
The annual Accolades program celebrates institutional accomplishments and higher education professionals for their work across areas ranging from fundraising, alum relations and student recruitment to marketing and communications.
The Campaign for Boswell Field at David J Urick received an honorable mention in the fundraising category. The campaign celebrated the career of Dave Urick, who coached the Statesmen lacrosse team to 10 straight NCAA Division III Championships during the 1980s. At Homecoming and Family Weekend, the Colleges named the stadium at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation in Coach Uricks honor. The award recognizes the publicity materials for the campaign, circulated both in print and online, as well as the dedication ceremony, which drew hundreds of attendees as well as Coach Urick and his family. Additional notable materials included a video created in house that used archival footage of Urick during his tenure at the Colleges, a gallery of photos from the event, and a wrap up story published on the HWS Update.

For a Best of This Week in Photos gallery focused on faculty, the Colleges were named the lead district finalist, automatically entering the gallery for consideration in the national CASE Circle of Excellence award program for Excellence in Photography. The gallery of 10 photos showcases faculty engaged in instruction in the classroom, in office hours and in the surrounding community.

All of the photos were taken by Chief Photographer Kevin Colton, who earned a pair of CASE awards in 2017 in the Platinum category for his photos capturing athletics and other HWS pride points. In the same year, Colton was named the best photographer in higher education with a 2017 Gold Award from CASE.
