Kinder Camp Expands
21 February 2017 Kinder Camp Expands
Kinder Camp, the summer youth day camp sponsored by Hobart and William Smith, will broaden its programming to accommodate a wider age-range of children. Beginning in the summer of 2017, the program will serve pre-K and elementary school-aged children through fifth grade.
Focused on personal growth through fun, academic and hands-on activities, Kinder Camp had historically been open to young children from ages four to seven. But in recent years, the camps director Patti Harling, a Spanish teacher at Penn Yan High School, saw a community need for a Kinder Camp experience that included students outside that initial age range.
I decided that rather than send these children to other camps, we should strive to see if we cannot first provide them with a fun-filled opportunity, Harling explains.
To adjust for the increase in campers, the programs staff will be growing as well, with Molly Hanna, who teaches at St. Francis de Sales St. Stephen School in Geneva, joining Kinder Camp to help coordinate activities for the older campers.
Molly comes to us from a third-grade classroom and with a host of knowledge. We are very excited to have her join us, says Harling.
