5 December 2016 Koshare Celebrates 45 Years
Showcasing 140 dancers in 20 pieces, the Koshare Dance Collective celebrates the 45th anniversary of its annual dance concert with performances on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18 and 19 at the Smith Opera House. Beginning each night at 7 p.m., the event will feature a variety of dance styles, from Ghanaian and Afro-Caribbean traditions, to classical ballet, contemporary, tap and hip-hop, all choreographed by HWS students.
The clubs leadership is very excited to be sharing all of the hard work the Koshare Dance Collective members have been putting in for the duration of the semester, says Bridget Nishimura '17, who serves as Koshare co-president alongside Tanina Urbanski '17.
Since its founding in 1971, Koshare has put on an annual concert designed to include student dancers of all majors and experience levels. The popularity of the event has grown beyond the bounds of the HWS campus and since 2013 has been performed in at the Smith Opera House, the historic 1,300-seat venue which has sold out each of the past three years.
In the days leading up to the performances, Koshare members will be tabling in the Scandling Campus Center, distributing free tickets to HWS students.
Tickets $10 General Admission; free for children and HWS students can also be purchased through the Smith box office.
