Having graduated with his degree in economics and entrepreneurship, Robert "Bobby" Lewis '19 joined IHS Markit as an associate on their sales team.

Lewis solidified his interest in the financial services industry during his senior year at the Colleges. As a semi-finalist in the Pitch Competition, Lewis created a business plan for his idea Greenhouse which would provide financial services to underserved communities. His passion intensified after attending the HWS Finance Experience, facilitated by the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education. During the four-day immersive trip to various NYC firms, Lewis heard personal insights from the president of financial services at IHS Markit Adam Kansler '90. He also connected with equity data and analytics sales specialist Paige Pierce '17.

"She told me about her experience at IHS Markit and what the company represented, and that really intrigued me," Lewis says. In particular, he says the entrepreneurship culture at the firm stood out to him; it was a unique quality among the firms he was speaking to and it resonated with his own studies at the Colleges.

At IHS Markit, Lewis will be a part of generating new sales revenue by proactively identifying, qualifying and closing new businesses deals. In his role, Lewis will be part of a team that identifies and offers solutions to various clients.

Throughout the application process, Lewis says the Salisbury Center proved to be a reliable resource, teaching him the importance of building relationships. "Connect with people in your field of preference, ask them questions about themselves and the industry," he advises current students.

Lewis is looking forward to applying the knowledge he gained at HWS to his new role. "My goal is to represent HWS well as so many before us have," he says. "At HWS, I learned how to think and understand perspective, which I believe puts me ahead of the game, especially in a client facing role."
