Masquerade Ball: Coming to America
3 April 2019 Masquerade Ball: Coming to America
The Caribbean Student Association (CSA) invites the HWS and Geneva communities to the 19th annual Masquerade Ball: Coming to America, a Celebration of Immigration. The event will take place at the Cracker Factory on Saturday, April 6 at 5 p.m.
Given the political climate across the country surrounding immigration, we wanted to host an event that highlighted the beauty in diversity and the richness of immigration both nationally and on campus, says CSA President Shaahida Samuel 19.
The food will represent cultures from around the world, and will include a charcuterie platter, an Asian station, jerk chicken wings, and lobster mac and cheese. There will be student vocal and dance performances, an art showcase, a guest salsa duo performance, and student Pamela Icyeza 19 as the keynote speaker.
Icyeza is the former president of the Model African Union, served as the Woodworth Fellow for the Fisher Center and volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club of Geneva. She is writing an Honors thesis under the direction of Professor of Political Science Kevin Dunn titled Understanding the effect of Sino-African relations on African Development.
Tickets can be purchased during tabling in the Scandling Campus Center. Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for faculty, staff and community members. Transportation will be offered to and from the Medbery parking lot. The dress code is formal attire. All are encouraged to attend.
