The annual William Smith tradition of Women Moving Women Up will take place on Friday, April 28 as members of the HWS community gather to recognize the academic, service and leadership achievements of William Smith students. The ceremony will recognize the graduating seniors as well as symbolize each class advancing into their next academic year.
Moving Up Day events will begin at 4:15 p.m. on the Hill, where first-years, sophomores, juniors and seniors will gather with their classmates then process to Stern Lawn carrying their class banner. Students are encouraged to wear their class colors to display their class membership. The Class of 2020 is yellow, representing loyalty and joy; 2019 is blue, representing faith and hope;2018 is green, for fidelity and friendship; and the Class of 2017 is red, symbolizing respect and passion.
The ceremony will then commence at 4:30 p.m. with a welcoming address from William Smith Dean Catherine Gallout. Other addresses will be made by members of the faculty and staff as they present various awards, including: President Mark D. Gearan, Chaplain Maurice Charles, Assistant Vice President of Alumnae Relations and Regional Network Kathy Killius Regan 82 P13, and members of the William Smith Deans office. In addition, the new members of the Hai Timiai and Laurel honor societies will be recognized. The ceremony will conclude with the singing of the alma mater led by the a cappella group 3 Miles Lost and the passing of the garland from the seniors to the juniors, as they take their place leading the women of William Smith College.
All staff, faculty, alums and families are welcome to attend the celebration honoring the accomplishments of William Smith students.
