The Hobart and William Smith Dance Department presented the annual Junior and Senior Choreographers Concert, complete with 10 original works, including one dance film, on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1 in Deming Theatre of the Gearan Center for the Performing Arts.
Featuring more than 40 dance students, performances were followed by audience discussions with choreographers immediately after each show. Choreographers included: Teianna Chenkovich '18 (Birds of a Feather/Birds of a Finger); Ellie Cherry '18 (1,482); Becky Shawn Geisinger '17 (Here in Nowhere); Hannah Lippincott '17 (After Hours in the Studio); Kayla Malcolm '17 (Barely Beautiful, Beautifully Bare); Bandeja Munir '18 (Among the Crowd); Katerina Nunez '17 (liminal); Maryn Elyse Albeyta Paul '17 ([Internal Logic]); Drew Scammell '18 (A Square of Your Own Design); and Tanina Urbanski '17 (Project 21: An Afterthought, Part 6).
Students were advised by Professor of Dance Donna Davenport. The first senior choreographers concert premiered in 1996 when dance major Jeanne Schickler Compisi '96 produced a solo concert. In 2010, the department opened the annual show to juniors and it is now a platform for declared junior and senior dance majors and minors who have taken classes in dance composition to perform their work in a formal setting.
