Gwen Ifill joined PBS as a senior correspondent to the "NewsHour" and Moderator and Managing Editor of "Washington Week in Review." She has been a frequent panelist on the show since 1992 during her tenure at NBC News. At NBC News she covered the premier political stories affecting the nation, including presidential campaigns, key legislative issues in Congress, and the impeachment hearings of President Clinton. A veteran journalist, Ifill joined NBC News after having served as White House correspondent for The New York Times. She has also covered politics and government for The Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun, and the Boston Herald American.
A native of New York City, Ifill is a preacher's daughter. She credits her father, a leader in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, with instilling in her an abundant curiosity and thirst for knowledge.
Ifill is a graduate of Simmons College in Boston, where she earned a degree in communications. She has been the recipient of five honorary degrees. Ifill chairs the board of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Journalism Awards, and is a board member of the Harvard Institute of Politics. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. Ifill lives in Washington, D.C.
