- As the Classes of 2020 return to campus for their final semester, we reflect on the experiences students will be checking off their HWS Bucket List. In this special edition of TWIP, we recommend 15 HWS adventures you don't want to miss. 1) Take a class or study in the Blackwell Room. In the photo above, Professor of English Grant Holly teaches screenwriting.
- 2) Attend office hours. Here, Professor of Dance Donna Davenport meets with her advisee Dante Kimbrough '22.
- 3) Meet instructor of Asian studies the Venerable Tenzin Yignyen and attend the mandala ceremony. Here, students in Tibetan Mandala Painting observe as Yignyen begins the mandala dismantling ceremony.
- 4) Attend a lecture presented by thought-leaders, change-makers and academics from around the world. On Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. the mission leader and project scientist for NASA's Mars Science Laboratory John Grotzinger '79, S.D. '13 will present Missions to Mars: Results, Updates, and Prospects in the Sanford Room.
- 5) Watch the sun rise over Seneca Lake. Here, Adam Farid '20 captures two students taking in the view.
- 6) Visit an exhibit at the Davis Gallery at Houghton House. The next exhibit Recurrent: Prints and Artist's Books by Amanda Maciuba opens on Friday, Jan. 31. In the photo above, students examine a past year-end show Student Art and Architecture: Studio Work.
- 7) Listen and subscribe to the Pulteney Street Podcast, a bi-monthly series by President Joyce P. Jacobsen in which she explores HWS by interviewing faculty, staff and alums. In this episode, Jacobsen interviews Associate Professor of Environmental Studies Beth Kinne about the Year of Water in the WHWS studio with Station Manager Greg Cotterill.
- 8) Visit the Salisbury Center in Trinity Hall to schedule a career trip, internship or shadowing experience. Over the January break, students on the Behind the Scenes trip to Los Angeles networked with Hollywood producers, writers, actors and industry professionals in the HWS Career Network.
- 9) Apply for a competitive stipend offered through the Salisbury Center to study abroad. Through the HWS Bickley Family Endowed International Internship Fund, Meg Quint '21 interned at a genetics research lab in Porto, Portugal.
- 10) Discover ways to serve the community through the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning. Above, Micah Holloway '19 tutors a new friend at the Boys and Girls Club of Geneva.
- 11) Attend the Involvement Expo. On Friday at 5 p.m. in the Vandervort Room, student representatives from more than 100 clubs will share what inspires their group to make art, host discussions, do service and more.
- 12) Join a club. In 2019, more than 150 dancers in more than 20 diverse pieces danced in Koshare on the Smith Opera House stage.
- 13) Jump into Seneca Lake. Above, students leap into the water from the dock of the Bozzuto Boathouse.
- 14) Cheer on the Herons and Statesmen. Here, fans support Hobart lacrosse as they take on Syracuse University on Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium.
